Vineyards and food
Puy l’Évêque is situated at the heart of the Cahors wine region and is surrounded by beautiful vineyards and chateaux, nestled in the twists and turns of the Lot Valley. The food and wine of the region, is a match made in heaven: duck, Foie gras, goats cheese, walnuts and truffles, fresh seasonal produce can all be found at the weekly, bustling, markets of Puy l’Évêque, Prayssac and Cazals.
If you fancy trying out the local wines, then the vineyards offer free wine-tasting and tours. You will learn about the ‘Black wine’ of the region and sample the distinctive character of the Malbec grape, not to be missed!
During August Puy l’Évêque hosts an annual wine fair, set on the banks of the River Lot. This is a fantastic opportunity to sample a variety of wines, from local independent wine producers, and a chance to test your tasting skills!
During the summer months many of the towns and villages host their own Marche Gourmande. A weekly night market with regional products for sale and you can purchase food and wine to enjoy outside with the locals. A chance to experience a true, village atmosphere, usually accompanied by a live band.
There are many restaurants in the area and we are more than happy to offer recommendations.
